Education & Care Guide

Learn about gemstones and how to care for your precious jewelry

Understanding the 4Cs

The essential factors that determine a gemstone's quality and value

Cut

The quality of how the gemstone has been shaped and polished. A well-cut stone reflects light beautifully, creating maximum brilliance and fire.

Color

The presence of color in a gemstone. For diamonds, less color means higher value. For colored gemstones, the richness and saturation of color determines quality.

Clarity

The measure of internal and external imperfections. Fewer inclusions and blemishes mean higher clarity and greater brilliance.

Carat

The weight measurement of a gemstone. One carat equals 200 milligrams. Larger stones are rarer and typically more valuable.
